One of the most memorable exhibitions of 2014
I know it seems I am very late to this party, say about two years, but I have been looking at the photos for this exhibition for that same amount of time. The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk exhibition in 2014 was for me spectacular. I very rarely say that about an exhibition, and for me to say that even after two years later, has left a lasting impression. With Paris fashion week around the corner, I thought it fitting to go down memory lane to one of France’s great fashion designers.
As this blog post is one for the archives, I can’t help but feel, this will always be a good memory and a realisation I needed to get back to being creative and return to what I truly love. Design.
A walk in wardrobe history of the fashion designer’s catwalk, TV, video and illustrations, capture so many sides to this great designer over the decades. His humour played a large part in every aspect of his work.
I have to say that I give a big round of applause to the curators and staff who put this exhibition. To see his fashion collection close-up, you can see how much detail, humour and care has gone into the themes for each collection.
The recordings of whispering french voices echoed across the rooms, whilst projected ghostly live human faces which were on the mannequins on display, gave a haunting shiver down the spine.
Do you have a past exhibition you love to share? What made it your most memorable exhibition/event in fashion or design? How did it inspire you to be more creative?
