Been going to the design museum at the Shad Thames for years, I even had my first date there with my boyfriend. Even though there were found memories, the Design Museum was in need of more space.
So when you have little space at the Shad Thames for your belongings you move to a bigger place. Even better if you can design a place that fits your requirements. The Kensington building previously the commonwealth building is more spacious and a lot easier to navigate around. The first thing you will notice when you entering the Design Museum is the roof designed by John Pawson and OMA. Reminded me of an accordion stretching in different directions.
Since the designs were made public there has been a mixed bag of views and opinions about the space.
I felt there could be more thought about the size of the café. For the size of building the café could be larger. Wasn’t too sure there needed to be two separate museum shops from each other.
Overall I like the design museum’s new home, just would have liked a few more user-friendly comfortable customer areas.

Have you been to the new Design Museum? What is your opinion on the new space? Room for improvement?
