Local | Global – International Fashion

 17-21 February 2017 | Somerset House – London

The International Fashion Showcase has continued to showcase new international designers at London’s Fashion Week. This programme is a gateway for new talent to showcase their collections globally. With the sponsorship and support from British Council, British Fashion Council and Mercedes – Benz. New designers are getting the business support and that important leg up into the industry which is vital for survival in their first few years as new designers.

This was my first experience seeing this event which ran alongside London’s fashion week. I was impressed by the detail and tailoring of most of the collections from each country.

I like to see these alternative fashion shows for new emerging designers more and more.

As my background is fashion and graphic design, I could appreciate the amount of work and thought that went into every stitch and seam for each garment. As well as the collections, I was particularly impressed by the room sets, which enhanced the visitor experience. I think my favourite room design was from Russia. Vertical light display flickered and synchronised music alongside the dancing shapes projected onto the wall.

If you were fortunate to get a chance to see the catwalk shows, I am very envious.

If you could recommend or have seen alternative shows or exhibitions around, New York, London, Milan or Paris Fashion week, share in the comments below.
